Trees for Cities

When we first launched Eco Elf we knew our customers would love the idea of enjoying the festive delight of a real Christmas tree without the guilt of destroying it afterwards, but we wanted to offer something more.

We have developed an annual membership option that enables people to cover the cost of their Eco Elf Christmas tree, and opens up a list of benefits that help give back to the planet.

We were very excited to confirm one of these benefits through our partnership with Trees for Cities (TfC). This fantastic organisation works nationally and internationally to plant trees to help combat the effects of climate change that are already being felt across the globe. One of the main areas of work for TfC is producing urban forests to help create greener cities, which will improve the wellbeing and livelihood for residents and communities around the world.

An important part of these urban forest projects is ensuring the right trees are planted in the right conditions. Trees can be fussy just like humans can be and different breeds prefer different levels of light, rainfall, or soil quality. Part of the beauty of Trees for Cities is their care and expertise in making sure the trees planted are as happy and healthy as possible. The trees planted come from a variety of species that grow well together so that over time they provide diversity for natural wildlife within the urban forest.

Trees for Cities is a well-established organisation – what started as a small tree planting project in London in 1993 has now grown to a world wide effort with support from teams and groups of volunteers. Three years ago their one millionth tree was planted and their ambitions have continued to grow. It’s exciting for us at Eco Elf to be part of such a worthwhile enterprise!

A Trees for Cities project will usually see around 5,000 trees planted and grown in any given location, and for every Green All Year membership sign up, one of these will be from Eco Elf. When we came across Trees for Cities, we knew they were a good fit for us and we were very keen to work together and help support the crucial development of urban forests.
